ALICE SPILLS THE TEA

Alice Spills The Tea

Down the Rabbit Hole We Go: Coachella, TikTok, and Payday Loans. Oh My.

Time to spill the debt tea on this whole Coachella and TikTok drama. Let’s get right into it:

Down the Rabbit Hole We Go: Coachella, TikTok, and Payday Loans. Oh My.

Down the Rabbit Hole We Go: Coachella, TikTok, and Payday Loans. Oh My.

Word on the street - okay, word on the internet - is that some people who allegedly went to Coachella this year might have allegedly, um, had to dig a little deeper into their pockets than they initially let on. Or, perhaps more accurately, the pockets of… other people.

They say, payday loans and credit cards have become the unsung heroes of this year’s festival -because nothing screams "I'm living my best life!" like borrowing money to attend a trendy event and flex it on your socials. Oh, the glamour.

These folks - let's call them social enthusiasts -who’ve somehow convinced the masses that spending their rent money on glittery outfits, overpriced festival tickets, and $25 lemonade is the way to go. Yikes.

So, after a little snooping by me I learned from some enterprising folks who love to dig into the dirt, a pattern has emerged that’s a little more concerning than those overpriced avocado toast memes. Apparently, some of these social enthusiasts (I’ll call them “Brokeachella Bunnies”) are using payday loans or maxing out their credit cards to live the dream of a festival, overpriced food based on the complaints on TikTok, and posing for photos in a dusty desert field and some where holdin snakes. Can you imagine? You’re borrowing money just so you can show off a selfie with your plastic cup and VIP wristband. Real “luxury” living, right?

Now, let me tell you something, darling: If you can’t afford a trip, it’s okay! Honestly, stop with the FOMO madness and going freaking broke in the process!

Let’s be real here—if you’re going into debt just to keep up with someone else’s highlight reel on TikTok, you’re missing the point. Seriously, all those so-called “memories” you’re flexing might just cost you way more than the fun is worth.

And don’t even get me started on those TikTokers who went to Coachella only to report that, well, it’s basically an overpriced carnival with super expensive food and crowds of people just trying to get the perfect Insta shot. One girl accidently dropped a single fork of food from her bowl and said "there goes five dollars" 🤯

If you didn’t spend your entire paycheck, took out a payday loan, or missed your car payment just to get there, you might have enjoyed it - for what it really is which is expensive And that’s okay too when you can afford it!

Look, I get it. Social media has this power to make us feel like we’re missing out on basically everything, like everyone else is having the time of their lives while you’re sitting there trying to pay your rent or mortgage. But let’s take a step back. If your weekend trip to a dusty desert turns into a few months of bills you’re scrambling to pay, that “once-in-a-lifetime experience” suddenly doesn’t feel so dreamy, does it?

So take a breath, take a break from the endless scroll, and repeat after me:

I am not my social media feed.

My feed is strictly entertainment!

Now go have some tea.

With dramatic flair, some spilt tea, and a glitter-dusted wink,
